Your files are never stored. We don't sell data. The only information we keep is what's necessary to manage your session and, if you subscribe, your email and payment status.
What we collect
FileForge collects minimal data to operate the service:
- Session identifier — a random token stored in a cookie to track your free-tier usage count within a session. This is anonymous and not linked to any personal data unless you sign in.
- Usage counters — how many files you've compressed this session, and total bytes processed. Used to enforce free-tier limits.
- Email address — only if you sign in with a magic link to activate a Pro subscription. We don't collect emails from free users.
- Subscription status — whether your account is active, trialing, or inactive. Sourced from Stripe after checkout.
What we do NOT collect
- Your files — they are never written to disk or stored in any database. Processing happens in memory and the buffer is discarded after your download completes.
- File names (beyond the session), file content, or metadata from your documents.
- IP addresses (beyond what your browser sends with every HTTP request).
- Behavioral tracking or ad profiles.
Cookies
We set one first-party cookie: fileforge_sid. It contains a random session ID, nothing else. It expires after 30 days. No third-party tracking cookies are set by FileForge.
If you use the service through a browser with tracking prevention (Safari ITP, Firefox ETP, Brave Shields), the session cookie behavior is unchanged — it's purely functional.
Third-party services
- Stripe — handles payment processing for Pro subscriptions. FileForge never sees your card number. Stripe's privacy policy is at stripe.com/privacy.
- Resend — sends the magic-link sign-in email. Your email is passed to Resend to deliver the email; it is not stored or used for marketing. Resend's privacy policy is at resend.com/privacy.
- Render — our hosting provider. Render may log HTTP request metadata (IP, path, response time) for infrastructure monitoring. See render.com/privacy.
Data retention
Session records are retained for 30 days from last activity, then automatically expire. If you have a Pro account, your email and subscription status are retained for the duration of your subscription and 90 days after cancellation, after which they are deleted.
Your rights
If you have a Pro account and want your email and associated data deleted, email us at support@fileforge.polsia.app and we'll remove it within 5 business days. Free-tier sessions are anonymous — there's nothing to delete.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. We won't reduce your privacy rights without notice.
